Welcome to the Wilderness

It is interesting to me how something I (until recently) knew nothing about has become so vital in my life. Lent has become for me a time of fasting, renewing, relearning and refocus of my relationship with God and my place in His Body and Story. I believe all Christians, but especially those of us in rich nations need a period of fasting (and fasting on days throughout the year) to help us remember who we are; our Pastor often reminisces about in his teenage years when he would leave the house for a date or party that his father (a pastor) would say "Remember whose son you are"; Lent is a time for remembering Whose children we are and reapplying ourselves to learn what this means in our lives, "Remember that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return". But as we wander in the wilderness we are not without hope, because we know Who awaits on the other side: our risen Lord, Jesus the Christ. So as we wait for black and purple to turn white and gold and our spoken words to turn to shouted songs of Alleluia let us take the time in our over busy lives to wander in the wilderness with our Lord and learn His ways, the ways of perfect faith, hope and love.
